How it Works

question and answer
1. Discovery - Let's Talk About It

We'll either set up a time and place to have an in-person meeting or to jump on a call and get to know each other.

Our first order of business is to get clarity on your business's offerings, target audience, and goals for your website. Afterall, if we don't know where we need to go we will never get there.

Here we can discuss exactly what you are looking for and what I can help you with. Once we decide to work together, I mark out milestones and send you a list of everything I need from you to get started.

2. Digging In - Materials Gathering & Research

Our first meet and greet helps set the stage for creating your online strategy.

The next step is for me to learn as much as I can about your business and to find ways to make you shine. If you already have a website, great! I'll take an indepth look at your website’s content (text, images, videos, product info, etc...). If you don't yet have a site, well this is where we get our creative juices flowing.

3. Intial Buildout

This is where your ideas begin to take form. I’ll first build a draft of your site using everything that you’ve provided me with. If I need more information or materials, I'll send you emails requesting more information. I will also keep you updated along the way and will periodically send you pages to review.

4. Review and Feedback

This is where I'll put you back to work - afterall, - sometimes we don’t know what we want until we see it in action! I'll ask you for your review of the first draft. I'll ask that you give me your honest opinion on what you like, and what you don't like, or if there are things that you would like changed.

5. Final Draft

After your review and feedback, I'll get back to work and will incorporate all the agreed upon changes, finalize the site and get ready for launch.

6. Blast Off & Ongoing Maintenance

It's time to celebrate! Your site is live and your customers are finding you. But what if you want to make changes or add to your site?

Rest assured that our relationship doesn't end with the launch. I'll be here when you want to make changes, add items or even start another business!

Website Design

Website Design Services photo of laptop

Your website design must focus on satisfying your business goals while meeting the needs of your audience. Doing both well is a balancing act and I am here to help you tackle that challenge.

Your website holds the entire identity of your business in one place and is the destination for most of your marketing efforts. Therefore, it needs to be:

  • Credible - There’s enough nonsense to wade through in today’s society. Your website shouldn’t be one of those things. We will work to give your audience honest and well-written content that you can proudly stand behind.
  • Compelling - Boring things are forgotten and uninspiring websites fall flat. You can be anything online, so why not inspire your audience to act? Take them on an adventure through your business that they won’t forget with a destination that they can’t wait to reach.
  • Concise - Keep it simple. Information overload is a real thing and it’s true that sometimes less is more. Layouts, designs, and content need to be clear and concise. Remember, consistency is key.

Whether you are looking for a simple landing page or a more complex site, we will work together taking in account your target audience, your business insights and all the little details to get you the website your business deserves.

Copywriting is storytelling!

Copywriting is used to tell your story. The story of your business, what you offer and your unique value.

Did you know that professional copywriting is what separates good websites from great websites? Just like anything related to your business, copywriting is a skill that is developed with time, practice, and knowledge. You may not have the time (or inclination) to perfect that skill...so let me help you with that.

As a copywriter, I can take all the great ideas in your head and put them on the page in ways that will convert your website visitors into new customers. Well written content can produce lead generation and even spice up your web pages to bring your products and services to life. After all, your website content is what converts visitors into customers. It’s what compels people to hit the “contact me today” button which can turn into leads. Let me help make sure that your website content matches your brand and inspires people to reach out to your business.

A picture is worth a thousand words.

Many people don’t realize it, but images can make or break a website. Websites are first and foremost a visual representation of your business and overall brand. Having low-quality images or poorly taken photographs on your website can ruin the first impressions of your new viewers. Even worse, many users will straight up leave your site if you don’t have respectable imagery to accompany it! What’s the simplest way to avoid all of this? Getting high-quality, professional photography for websites. No website should be without quality images, not with today’s digital standards.

You may be wondering why you can't just use stock photos? While I don’t want to discredit stock photos, when getting professional photography for your website you have the ability to choose exactly what gets taken and how the end product will look. You have complete customization. This is something that can’t be achieved when you solely use stock photos in your website design. Additionally, many stock photos are copyrighted, and in order to use them you still have to pay a fee for their use, so why not just customize the photos for your site and stand out from all of the others?

Web Development FAQs

This is a great question and the one that everyone should ask!

The only true way to give an honest answer is for us to have a conversation. I need to understand your business and what you offer, your target audience, your goals, and what you hope to accomplish. This will help us create a plan together and will ultimately dictate the final price.

A good analogy is to look at a building a new website like building a new house - there are a lot of different options, needs and upgrades based on what you want. The better I understand those things, the better equipped I will be to give you a price estimate.

To help you get started, here are a few initial questions to help you:

  • Who is your ideal customer?
  • What do you want your customer to do or know when they interact with your website?
  • What kind of marketing are you doing now for your business? Will this change once your website is complete?
  • Do you sell products online? Or do you wish to accept online payments?
  • Do you already have a logo and branding?
  • Am I replacing an existing website? If so, what is and isn't working on your existing site?
  • Do you have professional content already written, or do you need assistance with that?
  • Do you have professionally shot photos for use, or do you need assistance with that?

The time required to design your website is determined by three (3) factors:

  1. The scope of the work to be done (logo, copywriting, photography, web design, etc).
  2. How quickly you, the client, can provide feedback and your availability for any necessary meetings.
  3. My availability based on how much work needs to be completed.

That being said, simple websites can take one week, while full-service sites with multiple pages that include professional copywriting, photography, design, development, and rounds of feedback could take 4 - 6 weeks. E-commerce and membership sites could take 4-6 months and is this is greatly dependent on the number of features and products.

Again, we're back to using the new home analogy. Is it a standard 3 bed/2 bath or are we building a castle.

I'm so happy that you asked that question! Unfortunately I see a lot of businesses that need new websites because their previous web designer decided to go in another direction and failed to provide them with their files.

It is very important for me that you have ownership of your site and its files. For that reason, I take the time to set up your domain name and whichever hosting site you prefer with you. Then you not only have access to all of your information, but you are also responsible for your own annual renewals.

But don't worry if that seems like a lot. I'm always here to help you answer any questions.

Changes are a way of life! In fact, making regular updates and changes to your website keeps the content fresh and helps with search engine optimization.

I am here to help with any changes and updates and charge a flat-rate for my existing clients.

I absolutely love learning about what other people do! For that reason, I have designed my process to ensure that your voice is heard throughout. I'll talk with you and ask all kinds of questions to learn more about your business and goals, what you’re happy with and what you think could be improved, what role you want your website to play, and what your ideal site will look like.

Once you sign on to become a client, we will have regular conversations and check-ins during your project to ensure that we are creating a website you will love.

My billable rate for existing clients, as of January 1st, 2022, is $50 per hour. I bill in 1/2 hour increments and invoice at the completion of the project or at end of each month, whichever is more applicable.
